Naugatuck Valley Community College Literary Journal Publishes Call for Entries

Share

WATERBURY, Conn - Naugatuck Valley Community College’s art and literature journal, Fresh Ink, is inviting writers and graphic/photo artists to submit their work for consideration in 2021 – 2022 issue. This edition is intended to honor the indominable creativity of our Waterbury and Danbury communities despite the obstacles presented by the pandemic. The Journal is accepting previously unpublished works in the three categories of poetry, short fiction, and 2-D art. Deadline for submissions is March 15, 2022.

Guidelines and specifications for submission:

  • Each writer/artist may submit up to a total of FIVE individual works: artwork, poems, short stories.
  • Short fiction and poetry should be edited and submitted, individually, as .docx or .pdf files, and should not exceed 1250 words each.
  • As Fresh Ink engages in a blind review of submissions, file names should only contain the work's title, not the writer's/artist's name, nor should the author's name appear on the actual copy. File names should simply be the title of the individual work, i.e. "The Pretty Bird.docx".
  • Scanned artwork and photographs should be submitted as original high resolution (at least 300 dpi or at least 1000 pixels for both height and width). jpegs, or .png files.
  • Please do not submit reproduced images downloaded from social media as we will not be able to restore the resolution.
  • All submitted hi-res artwork will be considered for the journal's front and back cover design.
  • Work submitted from writers and artists who identify as NVCC students will be entered into NVCC Poetry, Short Fiction and Art contests.
  • ALL submissions will be eligible for the Luke S. Newton Memorial Contest.
  • Fresh Ink staff will notify published writers/artists upon close of blind review - by approximately mid-April.
  • Published authors will be awarded two copies of the Fresh Ink edition sent via mail.
  • Depending on COVID circumstances, a Publication Event/Reading may be held in late April.
