COVID-19 Update 3.13.20

Dear NVCC Family,

As you are all now aware, we have shifted most employees to temporary telework, which is planned through April 5, 2020.  Level 1 employees (formerly known as "essential") are the exception. We wanted to share some additional administrative guidance as telework is new to most of us. We also wanted to cover some issues regarding sick time and any diagnosis or self-quarantine involving COVID-19.

All employees now teleworking:

  • are expected to perform their roles to the best of their ability from home.

  • are expected to be available online via email or phone during their normally scheduled hours.

  • are expected to actively monitor email and voicemails sent to email.

  • are expected to be available to return to their work site during normal working hours when requested by their manager.

  • can direct any questions on work assignments and requirements to their manager.

Sick or self-quarantined employees:

  • Employees who become ill while teleworking and cannot perform their duties must report the illness to their manager and code time sheets accordingly.

  • Employees diagnosed with COVID-19 by a medical professional must notify NVCC’s Director of Human Resources, Kim Carolina at, 203-575-8056, or 475-235-7456.

  • Employees directed to self-quarantine by a medical professional must notify NVCC’s Director of Human Resources, Kim Carolina at, 203-575-8056, or 475-235-7456.

What if I think I have COVID-19?

  • If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop symptoms, such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.

  • Stay home except to get medical care.

  • Separate yourself from other people and animals in your home.

  • Call ahead before visiting your doctor.

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.

  • Clean your hands often.

  • Avoid sharing personal household items.

  • Clean all “high-touch” surfaces every day.

  • Monitor your symptoms.

  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, notify NVCC’s Director of Human Resources, Kim Carolina at, 203-575-8056, or 475-235-7456.

We will continue to keep you informed as we all work together through these challenging times.

Precautions to Safeguard Yourself

Precautions to Safeguard Yourself

Hand washing:

All students, faculty, and staff can help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases by regularly washing hands for at least 20 seconds. To learn more about proper hand washing, visit the CDC’s website page When and How to Wash Your Hands (CDC)

Other Precautions To Take:

In addition to frequent hand washing there are many other steps you can take to help prevent the spread of disease. These steps include:

  • Refrain from shaking hands, hugging, or kissing as a means of greeting.
  • Do not share food or beverages.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
