NVCC's International Center for the Arts Festival, 2022

REVOLT, REVIVE, RENEW

MONDAY - THURSDAY, April 11- 14, 2022

The Flags of Nations | 5th Floor Walkway

During the annual festival, we are displaying the flags of the seventy-nine nations from which our NVCC ESL students have come. These flags highlight the diversity of our College and celebrate the inclusivity and sense of community in our welcoming of students from all over the world: a true Confluencia. The flags are deliberately hung in a random order to reflect the randomness in which we enter this world and circulate amidst our College community.

International Center for the Arts

Mission:  The International Center for the Arts (ICA) connects our students and communities to an expanded world that expresses itself through the creative process.

Vision: The ICA extends the reach of the college to become a significant gathering place for discovery, learning, and engagement about traditional art forms and contemporary expressions that reflect the human experience.

Values: The ICA believes in the power of the arts to enrich the intellectual, cultural, and personal lives of our students and communities. It is the commitment of this community college to promote, preserve, and develop the richness of the diverse, creative traditions we’ve inherited and the emerging works to come.

The story is a parody of Shakespeare's Macbeth and some parts of Hamlet and King Lear, reset to a vaguely despotic location, with creative references to current and recent political events. Though the writing and dialogue may seem at times obscene and childish, the material begins to express something deeper, an inner consciousness in a way, forcing an awareness of the current state of our world.
