Since 2005, the Washington Monthly has published their annual College Guide and rankings. The Guide is based on the contribution to the public good that colleges makes in three broad categories:
- Social Mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students)
- Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhD’s)
- Service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).
