Beginner motorcycle enthusiasts and for those that have riding experience. Motorcycling is one of the most exciting forms of transportation around.

Part of the thrill of motorcycling is the knowledge that you are totally responsible for every action taken, from timing each shift to keeping a keen eye out for other motorists. To understand these responsibilities and get the most out of your experiences, a Connecticut Motorcycle Rider course is the place to start.

Program Overview

Connecticut Motorcycle Rider Education is a statewide program directed by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The Basic or Intermediate Rider training courses are mandated for a rider to obtain a motorcycle operator endorsement for their Connecticut driver's license. See the Course Descriptions below and register for one of our classes based on your skill level:

Please READ the Registration Packet BEFORE calling our office.

    STEP 1 - PRINT the 2024 Motorcycle Schedule & Registration Packet 

    STEP 2 – READ All the information and fill out both registration forms and waiver form.

    STEP 3 - SUBMIT Your registration (3 forms) using one of the following options:

    • FAX  203-575-8243 or 203-575-8277
    • US MAIL to: Non-credit Registration, 750 Chase Parkway, Room F323, Waterbury, CT 06708. 
    • DROP OFF to: 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury CT Founders Hall - Room F323

      STEP 4 - Check your email for confirmation letter with confirmed dates. Due to the heavy volume of registrations received, this can take 24-48 hours, sometimes longer. If you do not see the confirmation in your regular email, check your "spam or junk" email. If you do not receive a confirmation within 3 days, please call 203-575-8029 to confirm that we received your registration. 

      STEP 5 - Within 30 days of your scheduled class, sign up and complete your e-Course using the special link that was emailed to you with your confirmation letter. The e-Course takes approximately 3 1/2 to 5 hours to complete depending on the course you choose. You must provide your e-Course certificate of completion to your instructor in order to participate in the motorcycle class/riding portion on campus. You must successfully pass all components of this program to receive your motorcycle completion card in order to get the "M" endorsement on your license from the DMV.

      Motorcycle fees are non-refundable. Students may transfer ONE-TIME with transfer fee of $40.00. The transfer request MUST be submitted at least 5 business days PRIOR to the start date of originally scheduled class. NO EXCEPTIONS.

      Important Information

      To avoid disappointment please note: 

      • Classes run rain or shine from April through November. Classes are conducted in ALL types of weather. 
      • The mandatory eCourse 3 hours or 5 hours depending on the class you choose, must be completed prior to coming on campus to complete the riding portion and receive your motorcycle completion card. Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS! You will not be allowed to participate on motorcycles without your e-Course completion certificate.
      • Please dress appropriately to provide protection from the sun, rain, and cold. 
      • You should bring lunch, snacks, and plenty of water especially in the warmer months. We cannot stress this enough!
      • You must be on time to all sessions. Latecomers will be turned away at their own expense. Please be warned of frequent traffic delays in Waterbury. Give yourself plenty of travel time. 
      • There is important safety gear and attire that you must come with. See the motorcycle student information packet for details. You may be turned away from class if you do not meet safety criteria and refunds are not available. In order to complete your training, you will need to register for another course section and pay the fee again.
      • Class sizes are limited and registration is on a first come first serve basis.  We must receive the Registration Form, Liability Waiver Form, and full payment to secure your seat.  
      • All motorcycle registrations are non-refundable. Requests for transfer must be received a minimum of five business days (120 hours) prior to the start of the class. For a class session that starts on Friday evening or Saturday morning, notice must be given by Friday at 4:30 pm of the week before.  One transfer is permitted per student and requires a $40 processing fee.  If your payment for the motorcycle course is declined, you will automatically be dropped from the course and notified via email. You will have to start the registration process from the beginning to get registered in the next available class. We do not hold seats for anyone whose payment is declined. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

      Need to replace your CONREP motorcycle safety course completion card? Follow the three easy steps below: 

      1. Download and complete the Request For Replacement form
      2. Make out a non-refundable check for $25.00 payable to: The Treasurer, State of Connecticut

      Non-Credit/Workforce

      Basic Rider Course (BRC) Course Description

      Basic Rider Course:

      Designed to teach individuals with little or no riding experience what is involved in operating a motorcycle or scooter safely. The BRC begins with the development of fundamental skills: straight-line riding, braking, turning and shifting. it then expands on these skills into more advanced street riding techniques. This course consists of combined classroom (including a 3 hour or 5 hour e-Course depending on the class you choose) and on-cycle instruction. Successful completion of this course fulfills the requirements of the State-approved Basic Rider Course for licensing. On-cycle testing is completed at NVCC as part of this course. The written and vision tests are taken at the DMV. Motorcycles or Scooters and helmets are provided. Participants must have a valid CT driver's license (a motorcycle learner's permit is not required to take this course).

      Intermediate Rider Course (IRC) Course Description

      Designed for riders with some experience who are currently riding their own motorcycle. You must have a minimum of 600 street riding miles, or more than 6 months riding experience. Riders will improve skills in braking, cornering, evasive maneuvers, and learn "street strategies" necessary for survival. This course consists of combined classroom and on-cycle instruction. Successful completion of this course fulfills the requirements of the State-approved Intermediate Rider Course for licensing. Participants must have a valid Connecticut motorcycle permit and use their own street legal (no straight pipes) motorcycle or scooter that is registered and insured in the participant's name. You must ride to class, no hauling bikes/scooters to class on a trailer or truck is permitted (No Exceptions). Bikes will be inspected. You must provide proof of your current motorcycle permit, registration, and insurance card. 

      Cost $150.00 Non-refundable

      Experienced Rider Course (ERC) Course Description

      Even if you've been riding for some time, there's always something new to learn in this 6.5 hour on-cycle course. Using your own registered, insured, street legal motorcycle/scooter (bike will be inspected), you will have the opportunity to fine tune your riding skills during advanced maneuvers such as stopping in the shortest distance, cornering, swerving, tight turns, and other evasive skills. You must have a minimum of 1000 miles, or more than 10 months riding experience.  Passengers may participate in this course also.

      • Time required: Approximately 6 hours  on-cycle instruction, breaks and lunch.
      • What you need: Participants must provide a valid motorcycle license, current motorcycle registration and insurance card in the participant's name. 
      • Fee: Rider $120.00 / Passenger $40.00

      Course Registration and Payment Plans

      No formal application to the College is required for non-credit/workforce training courses.

      Registrations are accepted on an ongoing basis for upcoming classes.

      Special Instructions

      • Motorcycle Registrations require the completed registration forms, a signed waiver for each participant and full payment to be processed in order to reserve your place in class.
      • Motorcycle Rider course fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. There is a one-time transfer fee of $40 and requests must be made at least FIVE business days prior to the start date of class. Requests after this time will not be granted.   If your payment for the motorcycle course is declined, you will automatically be dropped from the course and notified via email. You will have to start the registration process from the beginning to get registered in the next available class. We do not hold seats for anyone whose payment is declined. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.
