NVCC Celebrates 50 Years of Higher Education and Community Service with Community Festival
Naugatuck Valley Community College celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Mattatuck Community College, one of its founding institutions. More than 400 guests from the community attended the gathering on Saturday, October 14. The community anniversary festival was supported by an enthusiastic list of community sponsors including Charles Pagano, Jr., DaSilva Realty, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Dunkin Donuts, Bushka Lumber, Mattatuck Industrial, Mathnasium, Waterbury Pulmonary Associates, Bunker Hill Pharmacy, Endodontic Associates of Greater Waterbury, PC, Palace Theater, Suburban Stationers, Inc., The Siemon Company, North East Transportation Co., Inc., Marion Manufacturing Co., Waterbury Symphony Orchestra.

Emceed by Hollywood Enterprises DJ, the event featured a full roster of entertainment and hospitality. Two dance performances choreographed by NVCC students captivated the audience. Competitive hula hooping contests involved students, faculty and staff while the attendees enjoyed face painting, chalk drawing, bingo, a photo booth, agility course, bean bag toss, softball toss, and a magician.

Associate Dean of Development, Angela Chapman and Director of Student Activities, Karen Blake produced the event. Chapman noted, “The festival was an unforgettable event bringing families in our community together to have fun, share joy and celebrate the beauty of over five decades of NVCC’s commitment to the community.”

The Festival was the culmination of a series of events planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the College coincident with the ribbon cutting for the new Center for Health Sciences and the donor recognition reception honoring supporters of the Capital Campaign that helped to furnish the Center. More than 400 community residents attended the festival. NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. enthusiastically welcomed the guests of the College. “How wonderful and how kind to break bread as a community of purpose. It makes me so very happy to see so many former and current students and their families, in particular, these beautiful and bright children. Mil gracias y bendiciones.”
