Administrative Office Professional

Certificate Program   Approved for WIOA funding. 

Administrative Office Professionals have a variety of responsibilities: business communications, organizing and maintaining files, arranging and coordinating meetings, managing purchases and payments, and managing subordinates.

This revised certificate program has been designed to teach you administrative skills in an accelerated format. It should be combined with the Microsoft Essentials, Medical Administrative Assistant, and or Bookkeeper Certificates for the most robust resume for employment.


Learn how to manage multiple roles and be a problem solver in this highly engaging course which will offer strategies for developing the skills to deal with the operations of an office or organization.  You will hone your communication and time management skills, learn to deal with supervisory situations, and advance your competency in solving problems.

Secretaries, administrative assistants, and office clerks are employed in organizations of every type. Around 90 percent are employed in service-providing industries, ranging from education and healthcare to government and retail trade. Some also work for firms engaged in manufacturing or construction.

When you are job hunting, try these position titles:

Administrative Assistant, Administrative Associate, Administrative Secretary, Administrative Coordinator, Executive Secretary, Executive Assistant, Secretary, Clerk Typist, Office Manager Assistant, General Office Clerk. 

Or one of these entry level position titles:

Receptionist, Information Clerk, Clerical Assistant, Office Clerk, Office Assistant, Customer Service Representative, Filing Clerk. 

A day in the life of an Administrative Office Professional 

ONet Online states that some of the tasks that are performed in this field are:  using computer programs, answering telephones and greeting customers, maintain databases, setup and manage electronic filing systems, operate office equipment, maintain schedules and calendars, complete forms, schedule appointments and make copies. 

Salary ranges

The Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) reports the statewide average annual income for a secretary or administrative assistant is $43,257 and the entry level hourly rate is $14.41.  Employment in this occupation is expected to grow slower than average, but the number of annual openings will offer excellent job opportunities.  The CTDOL projects an average of 418 annual job openings through 2024.

 


 

Cost

The program costs include all books, supplies and materials.  The Administrative Office Professional Certificate is approved by the Workforce Investment Board for training funds.  Please contact your local American Job Center to determine if you qualify for tuition funds.
