NVCC Alumnus, Dr. Robert Hartmann McNamara Inspires Students to Succeed in College

Associate Provost and Dean of The Citadel Graduate College Returns to His Alma Mater

Unassuming and down-to-earth is how one might describe Dr. Robert McNamara, a 1984 graduate of Mattatuck Community College, who was invited to speak with NVCC students on October 28, 2014 about his path to student success. In a written biography that he shared with students at the beginning of the event, he described himself as “an ordinary guy who was provided some extraordinary opportunities.” Dr. McNamara’s story is one of challenges, not unfamiliar to some students in the audience. 

NVCC Honors Activist Poet, Julia de Burgos and Celebrates Confluencia

On October 15, 2014, Naugatuck Valley Community College hosted “Julia de Burgos, de Puerto Rico al universe/ From Puerto Rico to the Universe: A Centennial Celebration” in the Playbox Theater, 750 Chase Parkway. The symposium and celebration honored the life and works of Julia de Burgos, a Puerto Rican poet, revolutionary and feminist, on the 100th anniversary of her birth.  Born in 1914, de Burgos is widely considered one of the greatest poets of Latin America.

NVCC Hosts Manufacturing Month Celebration in Conjunction with Opening Art Exhibit

President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., the students, faculty and staff of Naugatuck Valley Community College hosted a forum to feature the histories of local manufacturers to celebrate October as “Manufacturing Month” in Connecticut. President De Filippis opened the ceremony with a warm welcome that highlighted the list of seventeen manufacturing companies in attendance.

NVCC Hosts Alumni from Three Colleges to Celebrate 50 Years of Higher Education and Community Service

Alumni from Waterbury State Technical College, Mattatuck Community College, and Naugatuck Valley Community College came together at NVCC’s Technology Hall on Thursday, October 23.  A core group of Alumni who are leading the charge to re-invigorate NVCC’s Alumni Association worked to host the event.
