You may choose from several elective courses to prepare you for your career in Human Services

  • Child Advocacy: focus on advocacy on behalf of children and families.
  • Disabilities and Mental Health: focus on the disabled and mental health issues as it relates to children, families and adults.
  • Death and Dying: focus on loss and grief as it relates to life crisis’ including death.
  • Gerontology: focus on elder issues and the care of elders.

The Human Services Club

The Human Services Club ~ our goal is to support NVCC’s mission by providing opportunities for students to provide outreach to community agencies aimed at helping those in need and providing educational opportunities to students to enhance their understanding of issues that impact populations in need. 

Things that we do:

  • Helping the homeless
  • Providing services to children & adolescents in  placement
  • Speakers on various topics such as: Substance Abuse, Child Abuse, Elder Issues,
  • Trainings on various issues: mental health, substance abuse, suicide, sexual assault
  • Mittens from Marie: Collecting mittens and hats for people who wait outside St. John’s Soup Kitchen
  • Hugs from Heather: Collecting stuffed animals and giving them to children placed in out of home care
  • American Red Cross Blood Drive
