English as a Second Language (ESL)

Certificate Program Highlights
  • Six levels of ESL curriculum, from beginning to advanced
  • Reading and writing courses (6 hrs/wk), the core of the program
  • Courses offered in Waterbury in the morning, 9:35 am - 12:30 pm and evening, 5:30-8:30 pm, and in Danbury, 7:05 - 10:00 pm
  • Grammar courses (3 hrs/wk) offered at levels 1-5 in Waterbury, 11:10 am - 12:30 pm
  • Pronunciation course (3 hrs/wk) for intermediate and advanced students offered in Waterbury, 9:35-10:55 am
  • Experienced and qualified faculty with advanced degrees in teaching ESL
  • Advanced English Proficiency Certificate (must apply)
  • Credit and non-credit sections (NOTE: Students can use up to 6 credits of Intermediate and Advanced ESL courses to fulfill the Modern Language and/or Arts and Humanities electives required in some degree programs.)

Extra Curricular ESL Activities

  • Take advantage of free workshops on various ESL topics conducted by full-time faculty.
  • Join the Multicultural Club where you can meet other ESL students and learn about each other's cultures including dances, customs and food.
  • Participate in free Conversation Classes every Thursday from 4 - 7 pm.
  • Take part in in ESL community events like Fall 2010's ESL Community Night, when students, faculty and their families showcased their talents and shared in each other's company and native foods.
