Naugatuck Valley Community College has partnered to offer retraining to qualified adults and dislocated workers through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA), which offers a comprehensive range of workforce development activities through statewide and local organizations. NVCC partners with the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, in the Greater Waterbury area.
Who can benefit from WIA?
NVCC offers programs that are certified to provide education and training to adults and dislocated workers who have been awarded vouchers under WIA, including:
- job seekers
- laid-off / dislocated workers

You can get more information and find out if you qualify by contacting your local Department of Labor.
What is the purpose of WIA?
WIA programs seek to end poverty and promote an increase in the employment, job retention, earnings and occupational skills of participants. This, in turn, improves the quality of the workforce, reduces welfare dependency and improves the productivity and competitiveness of the nation.
Who can you contact about WIA programs at NVCC?
