Administrative Office Professionals have a variety of responsibilities: business communications, organizing and maintaining files, arranging and coordinating meetings, managing purchases and payments, and managing subordinates.

This revised certificate program has been designed to teach you administrative skills in an accelerated format. It should be combined with the Microsoft Essentials, Medical Administrative Assistant, and or Bookkeeper Certificates for the most robust resume for employment.

Learn how to manage multiple roles and be a problem solver in this highly engaging course which will offer strategies for developing the skills to deal with the operations of an office or organization. You will hone your communication and time management skills, learn to deal with supervisory situations, and advance your competency in solving problems. 

Prerequisites:

Important Information

  • The program costs include all books, supplies and materials.  The Administrative Office Professional Certificate is approved by the Workforce Investment Board for training funds.  Please contact your local American Job Center to determine if you qualify for tuition funds.
  • A tuition installment plan is available.  Please inquire about it when registering.  A signed copy of the plan must be provided with your first payment at the time of registration.
  • Course Entrance Requirements:  Basic knowledge of computers, MS Word, and competency in writing business communications. If you have any questions regarding your preparedness for this course please contact the Program Coordinator, Judith Slisz.

ONet Online states that some of the tasks that are performed in this field are:  using computer programs, answering telephones and greeting customers, maintain databases, setup and manage electronic filing systems, operate office equipment, maintain schedules and calendars, complete forms, schedule appointments and make copies. 

Salary ranges:

The Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) reports the statewide average annual income for a secretary or administrative assistant is $43,257 and the entry level hourly rate is $14.41.  Employment in this occupation is expected to grow slower than average, but the number of annual openings will offer excellent job opportunities.  The CTDOL projects an average of 418 annual job openings through 2024.
