Connecticut Community Foundation Awards $10K Grant to Support Job Ready Workforce Program at NVCC

The Connecticut Community Foundation (CCF) has awarded $10,000 to support continuing NVCC manufacturing students in the 21-town CCF service area as they work to complete advanced manufacturing certificates this spring. An award ceremony was held on Fri., Dec. 21.

Third Annual Legislative Breakfast Focuses on "Advocating for Students… Working for Connecticut"

Smaller Manufacturers Assoc. Selects First NVCC Student of the Month

On Jan. 14 the Smaller Manufacturer’s Association (SMA) honored Edgar Ortiz, an NVCC manufacturing student, as the College’s first SMA Student of the Month. The SMA currently honors students from Wilcox, Kaynor and Oliver Wolcott Technical High Schools.

College Makes Room for Smaller Manufacturers Assoc. on Campus

The Smaller Manufacturers Association (SMA) has officially relocated its headquarters to Naugatuck Valley Community College as of Jan. 15, 2013. The Association’s executive director, Cyndi Zoldy, now resides in NVCC Technology Hall, which also houses the newly built Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center and the College’s engineering programs and labs.

Presidential Promise Leads to On-the-Job Training for Students

At the start of the fall, President De Filippis made manufacturing students “an offer they couldn’t refuse.” As a result, 51 of 57 originally enrolled students earned Level I certificates and 36 earned a B or higher.

African Americans Highlighted in WWII Art Exhibit; Opening Jan. 25

A stirring and historical art exhibit is coming to campus this month, offering a unique opportunity for the community to revisit an important time in American history. The exhibit, "Proud to be in the Service: Images of African Americans who served in the U.S. military during World War II," will tell the story of African Americans serving both on and off the battlefield in WWII through a collection of black and white photographs.

NVCC Offers Evening Manufacturing Certificate This Spring for Career-Geared Students

Following the successful enrollment of the Advanced Manufacturing Certificate (AMC) pilot program this fall, Naugatuck Valley Community College’s (NVCC) Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center is offering up to 25 spots in an AMC evening cohort beginning in spring 2013. The spring semester begins January 25.

NVCC Hosts NEASC Accreditation Visit Nov. 11-14; Official Report to Be Made Available in Spring 2013

After two years of rigorous self-reflection and -evaluation, Naugatuck Valley Community College concluded, for its part, the decennial College accreditation process with a Nov. 11 - 14 site visit by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). An official evaluation report by the NEASC team will be sent to the College this spring.

STARBASE-Waterbury Shows Appreciation to NVCC As It Hits Program Milestone

In the 1980s Michigan teacher Barbara Koscak began taking her fifth-grade classes to nearby Selfridge Air National Guard Base as a way to engage their interest in the importance of science, technology, and mathematics. The enthusiastic results drew support in the form of a ScottCrossfield Foundation “Teacher of the Year” award, followed by a 3-year Kellogg Foundation grant and finally in a 1993 US Congressional allocation that created the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) STARBASE program.

2012 Business Finance Graduate Turns Business Owner

At 23 years old, Naugatuck Valley Community College graduate Michael Gatobu is the president of his own advertising company, Skytech Ads, LLC. What began as a young man’s dream of owning his own business became a reality right here in Waterbury, CT.

NVCC Partners with WestConn to Offer Winter Remedial Math Session

Beginning Winter 2012, NVCC is offering a self-paced math course for WestConn students. While the course is offered and taught by NVCC, the course will be available exclusively to WestConn students and hosted on the WestConn campus in Danbury.
