This Year’s Community Meeting Surpasses 100 Partners and Participants

NVCC reports out on progress made on strategic plan and plans for future

On Friday, June 13 NVCC hosted its fourth annual Community Meeting, gathering partners and participants from the 22-town service region to contribute ideas for the growth of NVCC, its students and the region. This year’s meeting was the largest in the College’s history, for the first time surpassing 100 attendees.

Naugatuck Valley Community College will host the fifth annual Brass City Comic Convention from 10 am – 3 pm on Sunday, July 20 in the NVCC Ruth Ann Leever Atrium. Admission is just 99 cents for adults and free for kids 12 years of age and under, as well as any guests who show up to the event in costume.

Four Students Earn STEM Awards from CT Space Grant Consortium

2014 Graduate Jason Willet Heads South for Aircraft Readiness Engineering Workshop

Four Naugatuck Valley Community College students have been funded by the Connecticut Space Grant Consortium to further their education in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. The Connecticut Space Grant Consortium is a NASA funded organization made up of 16 Space Grant affiliated universities and community colleges in the state of Connecticut. NVCC is one of the first Connecticut Community Colleges to join.

Manufacturing Student Lands Program's First Apprenticeship

Hannah Lenoce, Cheshire, has been hired at Marion Manufacturing as part of CT Apprentice Program

As a 2014 NVCC Advanced Manufacturing program graduate, Hannah Lenoce, 19, has a promise of employment for at least the next four years at Marion Manufacturing Co. in Cheshire. At the end of this time, she will be nationally certified as a tool-and-die maker, making her highly marketable and transferable at a time when most manufacturers are scrambling to replace an aging workforce.

Professor Commemorates History of JET Magazine in Final Print Issue

Juleyka Lantigua-Williams chosen to author JET's last-ever print cover story

“I was honored to be considered and accepted the assignment thankfully,” said Lantigua-Williams, who wrote for the magazine on topics ranging from politics to the arts, personal profiles, and education over the last three years. Her first JET cover story, “Fade to Black” (April 2013), is currently a finalist for a National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Excellence in Journalism Award.

The 2014 Conference of the Dominican Studies Association (DSA), “Making a Difference…,”  was held at Naugatuck Valley Community College May 1-2, 2014. The bi-annual interdisciplinary conference draws hundreds of scholars and students to panel discussions that explore the multiple narratives documenting the Dominican experience and diaspora.
