NVCC Expands Student Jobs on Campus Program to Danbury with $100,000 Grant

With the support of a $100,000 grant from the Leonhardt Scholarship Program through Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, Naugatuck Valley Community College is expanding its Student Jobs on Campus program to Danbury. The grant, which will flow through the NVCC Foundation, will sustain student worker positions at the College’s Danbury Campus and its main campus in Waterbury for the next five academic years.

NIMS Credentials at NVCC Off to a Strong Start

In its first year of offering credentials from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), Naugatuck Valley Community College is off to an impressive start. During the 2014-15 academic year, NVCC students completed 127 credentials. These nationally recognized, portable, stackable credentials are often used by manufacturers to identify qualified candidates for employment.

Trees help to clean the air and water and add beauty to the New England landscape, but they can also cause electricity disruptions and threaten safety if they’re not properly maintained and located. Given recent weather events, trees are a hot topic and thus were the focus of a conference of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (CTASLA), held on June 16 at Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Fine Arts Center.

Naugatuck Valley Community College Earns 'Eligible Institution' Status to Expand Opportunities for Hispanic Students

Naugatuck Valley Community College has been designated an Eligible Institution by the U.S. Department of Education under Titles III and V of the Higher Education Act of 1965. This distinction allows the College to pursue grants under the Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students through enhanced academic offerings. The HSI Program seeks to help large numbers of Hispanic students complete postsecondary degrees.

Principal-to-President Scholarships Provide High School-to-College Link for 30 Local Students

Naugatuck Valley Community College hosted a reception honoring 30 Principal-to-President Scholarship recipients from 19 area high schools on Tuesday, June 9 in the College’s Technology Hall Dining Room. NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. said she hopes the scholarships, which were applied in academic year 2014-15, encourage the students to expand their horizons while exploring choices for future postsecondary education.

NVCC Hosts High School Students at ‘Manufacture Your Future’ Student Expo

Naugatuck Valley Community College hosted 250 local high school students for the Manufacture Your Future Student Expo on Friday, May 8 in Technology Hall. Coordinated by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association’s (CBIA) Education Foundation, the event introduced students to local manufacturers, demonstrated the exciting high-tech careers available in manufacturing and brought students together to participate in hands-on workshops at the College’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.
