An Evening With Pulitzer Prize-winner Junot Díaz

Naugatuck Valley Only Community College on Author's International Tour

Waterbury, CT - Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Díaz is coming to Naugatuck Valley Community College on Thurs., Nov. 14 for “An Evening With Junot Díaz.” The event, which is sponsored by the NVCC student newspaper, The Tamarack, will begin with a welcome reception at 6 p.m. followed by readings and conversations with the author beginning at 7 p.m. in the College’s Mainstage Theater, 750 Chase Parkway.

"Having an author of Junot Díaz's reputation has the entire staff of The Tamarack excited about his visit,” said Ken Morse, editor of The Tamarack. “It's an honor for us to be hosting an event like this."

NVCC is currently the only community college slated in Diaz’s international tour.

Born in the Dominican Republic and cross-raised in New Jersey, Díaz has been praised for his literary commentary on the Dominican-American experience by Time Magazine, Newsweek, O Magazine and Booklist among others. In addition to earning a Pulitzer Prize, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao won the National Book Critics Circle Award. His most recent work, This Is How You Lose Her, is a New York Times bestseller and finalist for the National Book Award.

Members of the public are encouraged to join the College for the evening free of charge. Seating is available for 800 and will be given on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information call 203-596-8653, email tamarack@nv.edu, or visit nv.edu/tamarack. For directions to the Mainstage visit nv.edu/maps.
