Today, a combination of rail services can bring you to Waterbury. Amtrak from points north and south connect to local service in Bridgeport, just 30 minutes away. The Metro-North commuter rail also adds frequent trips from New York's Grand Central Terminal to Bridgeport, again providing connections to Waterbury.

Take Amtrak from any major East Coast city to Bridgeport - just 30 minutes from Waterbury. Approximate travel times to Bridgeport by rail are:

  • Boston MA (3 hours)
  • Providence RI (2 hours, 15 minutes)
  • New York NY (1 hour, 10 minutes)
  • Philadelphia PA (2 hours, 45 minutes)
  • Washington, D.C. (4 hours, 35 minutes)

U-Pass or Hart Transit Bus Pass

U-Passes and Hart Transit bus passes available to credit students.

All NVCC students taking credit courses are eligible to receive a U-Pass or Hart Transit pass for unlimited local bus rides as part of their student activity fees. Once student activity fees have been paid for the upcoming semester, Waterbury students may pick up their U-Passes at the Bursar's Window on the fifth floor of Kinney Hall and Danbury students may pick up their Hart Transit passes at the Administrative offices on the 2nd floor Administrative Office.

Please note:

  • You will need a student ID in order to get and use the pass. If you do not have a student ID, you can get one from the Information Center in Kinney Hall, Room K522 in Waterbury or in the Administrative Office on the 2nd floor in Danbury. 
  • If your bus pass is lost, damaged or stolen, inform the Bursar's Office as soon as possible to have it cancelled.  New passes may take up to a month to be replaced. Once confirmation of pass deactivation is received, you will be eligible for a replacement pass.
  • Bus passes are good until the date shown on the back.
  • Passes should be handled with care. The magnetic strip should be kept away from cell phones and magnets.
  • Bus schedules are located on the 5th floor Bursar's Office K508, Tech Hall, the Administrative Office in Danbury and on the web. 
  • Buses are handicap accessible and have bike racks.
